From the public beach at Tamarin, you walk north along the sand all the way to Flic en Flac: first the quiet stretch below the Tamarin houses, then Wolmar and its hotels, then the long public beach of Flic en Flac with its filao trees, food vans and local families. Beaches are public in Mauritius up to the vegetation line, including in front of the hotels.

It's about 6 km each way (1 h 30 โ€“ 2 h at a gentle pace). Walk back the same way with the sun behind you, or take a taxi back to the car (โ‰ˆ 15 minutes). Bring a swimsuit: the Wolmar reef is the best snorkelling on the way.

  • The longest beach walk near the villa
  • Swim and snorkel at Wolmar on the way
  • Lunch at the Flic en Flac end

Getting there

Driving route from the villa

๐Ÿš— By car: 10 min (4 km) off-peak. Free public car park at Tamarin beach (end of Avenue Rose), or park at Flic en Flac and take a taxi to Tamarin to walk back towards the car. Directions in Google Maps โ†—

  • ๐Ÿš• Taxi from the villa: about Rs 350โ€“500 one way per car (agree the price first; a return trip with waiting time is often negotiable).
  • ๐Ÿš• Taxi: Taxi back from Flic en Flac to Tamarin (ask a restaurant to call one). ยท 15 min ยท Rs 500โ€“800 (CHF 9โ€“14)
  • ๐Ÿšฒ Bike: close enough to cycle along the coast road (take care with traffic).

Tips

  • ๐Ÿ’ก Walk at low or mid tide: the sand is firmer and a couple of rocky points are easier to pass.
  • ๐Ÿ’ก Plan the return: walking back doubles it to โ‰ˆ 12 km; a taxi back costs much less effort.
