Tamarin Bay is one of the few places in Mauritius without a barrier reef, so the Indian Ocean rolls straight in. That makes it the island's historic surf spot, a lively local beach and a place where you sometimes see spinner dolphins from the shore in the early morning.
Swimming is fine on calm days near the middle of the beach, but the river makes the water less clear and there can be currents near the channel. Come for the atmosphere, a surf lesson or a late-afternoon walk.
