Flic en Flac's public beach stretches for kilometres of white sand behind a wide turquoise lagoon. On weekdays it's calm; at weekends Mauritian families arrive with picnics, music and pots of briani, and food vans sell dholl puri, gateau piment and ice cream.
The lagoon is great for swimming. For snorkelling, head to the southern end (Wolmar and the reef in front of the hotels), where the coral is better. Sunsets are superb.
