In a clearing near Chamarel, weathered volcanic basalt has turned into small dunes of sand in up to seven colours, from red and brown to violet and blue-green. The colours never mix, even after rain. The same park has a viewpoint over the Chamarel waterfall (about 100 m high), the tallest on the island, falling into a green gorge, plus Aldabra giant tortoises and a café.
The road up to Chamarel, with views over Le Morne and Case Noyale, is part of the experience.

🚗 By car: 30 min (17.1 km) off-peak. Large car park inside the park. Directions in Google Maps ↗
- 🚕 Taxi from the villa: about Rs 700–900 one way per car (agree the price first; a return trip with waiting time is often negotiable).
