Big-game fishing from Black River
Black River is the big-game fishing capital of the Indian Ocean: blue marlin, tuna and wahoo just a few miles offshore, where the seabed drops to 1,000 m.

Just off the west coast the ocean floor plunges into the deep, bringing blue and black marlin, yellowfin tuna, wahoo, dorado and sailfish close to shore. Black River's fishing boats go out for half or full days with an experienced crew; the catch is often shared or given to the crew, and most operators practise tag-and-release for marlin.
The season peaks from October to April, exactly our trip.

- 🚲 Bike: close enough to cycle along the coast road (take care with traffic).
