Mauritius's wild little sister, 600 km east and 1h30 by plane: a huge lagoon, empty beaches, hikes, kitesurf and a slower Creole way of life.

Rodrigues is an autonomous island of Mauritius with 40,000 people, a lagoon twice the size of the island and almost no big hotels. Visitors hike the coastal path from Graviers to Saint François, take boats to Île aux Cocos (seabird reserve), visit the giant tortoise reserve of François Leguat and the caves, and eat octopus and honey.

It needs at least 3 days: fly from the airport near Mahébourg with Air Mauritius (several flights a day). Not on these maps.
