The Château de Labourdonnais is an elegant Italianate villa built in 1859 on a sugar and fruit estate near Mapou. The house is furnished as it was in the 19th century; the estate has orchards (mangoes, lychees), giant tortoises, a rum distillery with tastings of its La Bourdonnais rums, and fruit pastes and sorbets.
A good half-day on a trip to the north, together with Pamplemousses.
